World Kidney Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. An awareness Booth was presented at the hopsital main entrance, where the Renal Dialysis staff distributed educative brochures and glasses of water to public.

One in three of us will get dementia or stroke during our life time. This can occur at any age-any time-anywhere! Both these disorders are preventable- treatable for the most part. Diseases affecting the brain include Stroke, Epilepsy, Depression, Tumors, Traumatic injury, Alzheimer’s disease, infections, headache, sleep disorder and genetic disorders. Exercise, healthy eating, Avoidance of tobacco, drugs and alcohol, reading and problem solving, All promote brain health. In order to promote better brain health in the Community, an awareness day was conducted on July 22, 2014. The activity included awareness Booth at the hopsital main entrance, brochures distribution and blood pressure measurement.

Monla Hospital in collaboration with the University of Balamand Nursing Program performed a ‘Scientific Day’ on 17 May 2014 at the Safadi Cultural Center in Tripoli. The program, which addressed the empowerment of nurses and their career development, brought together 160 nurses from 18 different institutions in North Lebanon and Byblos. Balamand’s Dr. Marie Therese Sabbagh delivered a speech on behalf of the director of the Nursing Program at UOB, Ms. Ursula Rizk, where she addressed ‘reality shock’ in nursing practice. Reality shock, she explained, is the expectation reality generated stress experienced by new graduate nurses when transitioning from academia to their first professional experience in hospitals. One suggestion offered to prevent reality shock is increased collaboration between academia and practice, so as to increase student experiences. Monla Hospital nursing director, Rajaa Halabi addressed leadership in nursing, describing it as “a necessary component in meeting the challenges of delivering quality patient health care.” She also showcased the obstacle

Being Socially Responsible, the hospital sponsored and participated in Tripoli half Maratahon to share with the community the theme “ Run for Peace”. Believeing that this activity promotes teamwork among employees and provide fun to employees,the hospital encouraged staff members and their families to participate. Around 100 employee was involved. All participants celebrated the 3 winners: Miss Amani Hawchar, Senior RN, Mr. Mohammad Abdallah, Nurse and Mr. Bilal bakkour Nurse.

Monla Hospital Patient Safety Week is a hospital local campaign to raise awareness of patient safety. The patient safety week was founded in 2012 and it will be celebrated every May. This year’s theme is << Be Aware for safe Care>>. The program targets patients, families, visitors and staff. The activities that were performed during this week: patient safety posters, flyers and brochures distribution, patient safety lecture, rounds on patients, and Door Booth. The New Surgical Unit has 36 in- patients’ beds. It was opened in Feb 2012 and is designed to care for patients with surgical needs. Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses develop a plan of care for specific patient needs in collaboration with the patient and his doctor.
